SAREE, NOT SORRY!
Drape it like it’s hot!
The last few seasons have seen the saree take over what was once the domain of lehengas and suits at every Indian shaadi. One can find all the cool girls wearing everything from fun, printed ones to those that are sheer in 2019. And, while you might spot the occasional heavily-embellished saree, in the summer it’s always a good idea to keep it light, and go with prints if you want to be all fancy.
Animal prints are still raging hard right now, and while we are still on the fence about Indian ethnic in zebra and leopard prints, we’ve spotted a lot of animal motifs on the saree off late, and we totally approve #WildAndFree
There’s something to be said for a simple saree that is subdued, yet stands out. We are crushing hard on the contemporary versions of the Kanjeevaram that are totally hot and perfect for a day wedding in the summer, and worn with flowers in your hair.
EARN YOUR STRIPES
Striped-everything is trending big right now, and your saree should be no less. Wear ‘em with pants a la Sonam Kapoor and weave ‘em around your neck like a stole the way all the celebs are doing these days #StripedToPerfection
Oh, sheer, we’ve missed you so! Come shaadi, reception, mehendi, cocktails or anything else, there’s nothing we’d rather wear than you in this godforsaken heat. Pair ‘em with Spring’s other hottest trend – a tie-up blouse in a contrasting print #TieNotDye
Spring dressing is practically incomplete without florals making an appearance atleast once. Go for bright & bold florals, or go more low-key in toned down colours. Pair ‘em with a floral blouse in a clashing colour and get the print-on-print trend down pat.
While we do like to keep it simple in the warmer months, a touch of embellishment (or a lot) on your saree is kind of a given when you’re going to your arch-nemesis’s wedding, but only ‘cos your folks are friends with the fam, and you’ve got to keep up appearances.
