NYFW SS 2019

A roundup of everything that was buzzin’…

Ralph Lauren celebrated 50 years in fashion, Lourdes Leon pulled a Madonna and walked down the runway in a bra+body chain made of shells, Marc Jacobs revisited his notoriously tardy ways (his show started 1.5 hours too late), and the influx of all the biggest supermodels of years gone by were there – the Spring/Summer 2019 edition of the recently-concluded New York Week stood out for a gazillion and one reasons, but these 5 were the ones that #TurntItUp the most for us.

Visual artist & drag du jour, Sasha Velour, the gender-fluid queen who won Season 9 of Rupaul’s Drag Race headlined the Opening Ceremony show aptly titled, ‘The Gift of Showz’ and it was fantabulous. Singers Troye Sivan, Nicki Minaj and Hayley Kiyoko were #FROWING of course.
STYLE CUE: This gender-bender showed sex no bar, and expressing one’s individuality is key – though we did catch tons of black, lots of drama. Checks checked off too. A lot of neons, pinks, florals and sheer too.
Jeremy Scott, Marc Jacobs, Naeem Khan, Mansur Gavriel, Longchamp, Vivienne Hu, Tome, Adeam, Oscar De La Renta, Liberty, Carolina Herrera, Cushnie, Mara Hoffman, Liberty, Sally Lapointe, Brandon Maxwell & Ulla Johnson #DroppedItLikeItsHot
STYLE CUE: Big pouffy evening wear, neon, sheer, tie & dye, fringe and headgear #RuledTheStyleRoost
From oversized Talisman necklaces hung ’round models’ necks to more artistically inclined earrings that hung from just one ear, the SS 2019 jewellery was sculptural, but not minimalistic. Shoes with funky patterns and tassels were everywhere, and we could have sworn we saw the cutest lil mice on a few as well. Bags were mostly functional (a few weren’t), and it was the reign of tassels once again+PVC, animal skin and florals.
STYLE CUE: Oversized, artistic, dramatic and tassels are big.
Couture mixed with cazh spilled onto Big Apple’s streets, and there were sooo many lewks we loved, we hated that we could only give a shoutout to such few here. Anywho, here be the ones that stole the show for us #StreetStyleMamas

STYLE CUE: Pouffy 80s sleeves are in, so are belts cinched ’round the waist. #PrintsOnPrints are still the way to do it, especially if one of them happens to be animal-inspired #AnimalInstinct
Riri made ripples again, and led the diversity brigade with her Savage X Fenty lingerie show that had women of all shapes, sizes and creed, and proved that you can be a badass no matter the size you are. Other designers like Michael Kors, Prabal Gurung and Christian Siriano+brands like Chromat and Studio 189 were in on it too.
STYLE CUE: Whether you’re tall, short, petite, fat, voluptuous, skinny – you just gots to #OwnIt
