John Abraham’s Fitness Masterclass with Reebok and Jabong
What do you do when John Abraham, the proud owner of the best bod in Bollywood, tells you to do a jumping jack? You say, “how high?”
At a once-in-a-lifetime event, a crowd of fitness enthusiasts and bloggers gathered at CyberHub in Gurgaon to do just that last week.
John takes fitness very seriously. How do we know that? He told us he hasn’t had a bite of kaju katli, his favourite dessert in 21 years – he means business. Besides, just look at the man! At the Reebok and Jabong Fitness Masterclass, we got John Abraham to talk to us about this fitness routine.
What is your current training style and split?
I work out all seven days of the week and don’t believe in compromising on my fitness regimen. I am actually lifting my body weight of 94 kilos. It’s the most effective way of training for me. I am preparing myself for Force 2, for which I have to be in a certain shape by the end of July. I learn something new every two to three months. Next, I want to train in Krav Maga, the self-defense system developed for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). It consists of a wide combination of techniques sourced from judo, boxing, and wrestling along with realistic fight training.
What kind of a diet do you follow?
My breakfast is massive. I eat 8-10 egg whites along with oatmeal – that’s my complex carb. My sugar comes from fructose, from lots of fruits. Throughout the day, I eat low GI(Glycemic Index) foods. I eat every two hours and my meals range from lentils to quinoa salads. I am predominantly a vegetarian, but I eat egg whites and fish occasionally. I drink protein shakes, since I do muscle training.
How important is clothing when you work out?
It’s very important. I dress for the gym the way people dress to go out. Good shoes are extremely important.
What’s in your gym bag and on your playlist?
My gym bag has AB Straps/Pro bands and TRX Suspension Trainers/Straps. My playlist consists of anything that gets me moving.
