How to wear patterns to the office
Are you absolutely bored of the plain black suit that you wear to work? Or the jeans you’ve been wearing for several months? Don’t worry; we’ve got a backup plan for you to upgrade your office wardrobe. From the Spring/Summer 2016 runway shows of Alexander Wang, Yohji Yamamoto and Canali to the streets of India, Paris and Milan, we’ve got some major style inspiration for men who love their prints. And here’s how you incorporate the trend into your daily routine.
The simplest way to incorporate patterns into your wardrobe is through suits. A corporate business meeting always requires something elegant – go for plaid, pinstripes or subtle checks and keep the shirt minimal to let the print stand out. Since your line of work is very formal, you can experiment with shades like khaki, grey, navy and brown.
Work at a creative office? This should give you room to play around with fun prints. Since you don’t have restrictions when it comes to colours, go for shirts with colour blocked stripes, stars, polka dots or gingham checks in different colours. Pair them with chinos or jeans to give your outfit a laidback vibe.
And for those days when solid trousers just won’t cut it, you can go with trousers that are printed to give your outfit an added edge. We took inspiration from the streets and found that whether it’s vertical stripes, checks in deep tones or florals, summer is the best time for you to show off your prints. Team up your trousers with neutrals so the focus remains on the pattern.
